The Ramchandra Series
Through his 4 book series “Ramchandra Series”, Author Amish Tripathi brings us the typically famous Ramayan in a beautiful and different form. With the fourth book releasing soon, the first 3 are amazing. The historical fictions give us big surprises as they reveal the backstories of the three main characters — Ram, Sita and Ravan, throwing light on the reasons for their actions and some unknown facts of the next chosen “Vishnu”.
Ram Scion of Ikshvaku — “If he was born before midday then history would remember him as one of the greatest and that if he was born after midday, he’d suffer misfortune and not knowing personal happiness.” had predicted a sage and Ram was born exactly at midday with an unpredictable future.
He was outcast by his father Dasharatha, who believed Ram’s birth was the reason for his defeat at the hands of Raavan in a battle that happened years ago. Ram, a strict law-abiding person and a man with morals and ethics, always loved his family and had contributed to his kingdom being in charge of the Ayodhya’s police. Later he was crowned the Prince of Ayodhya by his father, who had a change of heart.
Incidents happened and he had to abandon everything to live in “Vanas” along with his wife — Sita and brother — Lakshaman. During this time Raavan kidnapped Sita as revenge for his Sister Surpanakha’s disrespect at the hands of the trio. Heartbroken Ram wants to fight Raavan, the strongest and most feared king in the Sapt Sindhu and bring back his wife.
Will he succeed? Will he find personal happiness?
Sita Warrior of Mithila — A beautiful and fierce lady, loved by many. “She is no ordinary girl. She is Sita.” Said to be born from mother earth with determination and courage. As the Prime Minister of Mithila, she brought glory to the land. Married to Ram, she loved and supported him in every decision except the one that may become the biggest mistake of his life and cause him to go into exile. She loved and cared for her friends and had their support forever that is why when she was being kidnapped by Raavan, Jatayu fought back until his death to save her. And now Hanuman will travel across oceans to bring her back.
But she was betrayed by her own friend and kidnapped to a faraway land. Did her friendship and humanity pay her off well?
Raavan Enemy of Aryavarta — Raavan the powerful, feared, the rich and great king of Lanka, sacrificed a lot for his family. He ran away along with his small brother to stay alive. He fought many battles small and big to become the strongest & most wise but his struggles are unknown to many. Love and revenge forced him to take unexplainable actions. He longed for true love, but he always cared for his family and took extreme actions to keep them happy — like kidnapping Sita.
Was he the real evil?
The books bring in a plot twist with two different people chosen to become the next “Vishnu”, one by Rishi Vashistha and one by Maharishi Vishvamitra. The reasons that turned these friends into foes are still unknown.
What will this kidnapping lead to? What do Rishi Vashistha & Maharishi Vishvamitra have in mind for their respective upcoming “Vishnu”?
Standing true to your ethics and morals, fighting for our loved ones, respecting everyone, believing in love are the few takeaways from the 3 books.
The author always has a way of making historical stories interesting. While describing each character he brings in twists that make us think — maybe the evil was not wrong. These books reflect modern society & its norms showing us what we should learn to improve rather than repeating history.
Waiting for the 4th book!!
